May 5th, which corresponds to the 15th of Ordibehesht in the Persian calendar, has been designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) as “World Hand Hygiene Day.” For years, this day has aimed to encourage everyone to participate in the “Global Hand Hygiene Campaign.”
According to the WHO, proper hand hygiene can prevent the spread of hospital-acquired infections. Studies have shown that using effective infection prevention and control methods has the potential to reduce healthcare-associated infections by up to 55%.
In this regard, with the cooperation of the officials at the Iranian Psychiatric Hospital and with an emphasis on this year’s slogan for World Hand Hygiene Day—“Gloves do not replace hand hygiene”—efforts were made not only to promote this culture within the hospital but also to raise awareness at Razavaniyeh Girls’ Elementary School. The aim was to familiarize students and their parents with the benefits of this health-promoting practice (hand hygiene), enabling them to play a significant role in improving their own health and that of their families.
