According to statistics from the World Health Organization, 1.3 million people lose their lives in traffic accidents each year, and Iran is among the countries with a high rate of road fatalities.
Every year, approximately 19,000 people lose their lives in road accidents in Iran, and over 300,000 are injured.
During Nowruz 1404 alone, in just 10 days, 640 deaths and 15,262 injuries were recorded in road accidents.
Main Causes of Accidents
- Human error accounts for 90% of accidents worldwide and 52% in Iran, including speeding, drowsiness, and failure to maintain a safe distance.
- Road issues: 30% of accidents are due to poor road conditions (90% of Iranian roads are two-lane).
- Vehicle defects: 13% of accidents involve unsafe and high-risk vehicles.
Economic Impact
- The annual cost of road accidents is about 8% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Trend Changes
- 19% reduction in fatalities during Nowruz 1404 compared to the previous year, but still concerning.
